My Haunted Life – Extreme Edition Available

Today, I have a new paperback about to hit the market in the form of My Haunted Life – The Extreme Edition. Weighing in at 210 pages and $12.99, its birth was actually relatively painless as it is essentially My Haunted Life, My Haunted Life Too, My Haunted Life 3 and two additional, never published before stories as a bonus. The cover is I think pretty spooky too!

My Haunted Life Series
I started writing My Haunted Life last year as an idea to expand on some of the material in Inner Journeys (my first book back in 2005). In Inner Journeys, I talk about growing up with poltergeist and ghosts and how that made me interested in the supernatural and magic. The point of the book was to talk about studying with a real school of magic in the form of the Servants of the Light however. So, I took some of the mentioned experiences and added some more in the form of true short stories and put it out on Kindle. The result was – a minor hit. Something of a first for me.

Given the success of that book, I decided to continue the theme and so My Haunted Life Too was born and went to #1 in two categories on Amazon. It still regularly appears in the top 10 of those two categories. Quite a thrill. Only last night, I got a new follower on Twitter who told me they were reading the book and enjoying it. It feels good to know that people I have never ever met, total strangers – are buying and reading my books.

My Haunted Life 3 came out earlier this year as a final follow up. It also is doing well.

Being Kindle books, they are all around 60-80 pages long and so I abandoned any thought of a paperback version of each (I did try with the first book but I found the pricing uneconomic). However, by combining all three Kindle books and adding a couple more stories what I end up with is a rather nice collection os short stories at a reasonable price.

I am done with the My Haunted Life phase of my writing career now though. I am not done with books about the supernatural however, and I am working on three new books right now. Two will be the shorter Kindle-type books and one will be a longer paperback novel. I’m having fun.

An Independent Website

Well, after a year on wordpress.com, this blog has made its bid for freedom once more and is now a stand alone website again. I still have a wordpress.com version – you can find it here and, if things are working correctly, my updates here will also automatically appear there…. There may yet be a few bugs and tweeks to be made.

I moved the site because, while the social interaction offered by WordPress.com is excellent, it is at the expense of many other functions. For example, I can’t link to my books on Amazon properly, I can’t add an embedded newsletter sign up form and much much more. On this site, I will be adding all of the functionality over time.

Meanwhile, My Haunted Life – Extreme Edition, the paperback, has had its button pushed too and at some point in the next 24-hours will be available to purchase on all the amazon sites and elsewhere besides. The paperback contains all three kindle books and two never before published additional stories as a bonus. So, for those of you who like to smell book smell and hold a real book in your hands, you can now do so and read My Haunted Life…..

True Tales of the Paranormal

By G.Michael Vasey

This short collection of paranormal accounts takes us in a dizzying ride from Vasey’s childhood in Yorkshire, through creepy holidays in caravans and haunted cottages, into the truly nasty contents of American basements and, ultimately, on to the more spiritual, even uplifting, side of what we commonly refer to as a haunting experience.

At the same time, this down-to-earth, mainly understated, series of stories asks the reader to think about the nature of reality – and, indeed, of our perception. How, Vasey asks, can we ever be sure of the reality of anything or anyone? How do we know that the experiential package we choose to name ‘yesterday’ actually happened in any concrete sense? And these questions, by their very nature, throw open the whole much-vaunted debate about ghosts, presences and otherworldly monsters.

Vasey’s book is effective precisely because of its every day, undemonstrative nature. The settings are ones we have all been in: The holiday caravan, the bedroom, the scenic walk, the office. This is the normal, familiar world – and yet Vasey has suggested another world lying parallel to ours, or visitors from another time/space – or creatures who cling to certain surroundings for a purpose we cannot see.

It is frightening because it does not exaggerate. It chills the marrow because we can believe, only too readily, that those flickering lights in our own twenty-first century homes could be the start of an eleventh century ‘visitation’; that nature, on our own favourite stroll, could play strange tricks upon our senses.

I romped through the book, fascinated and absorbed. At times, the hair stood up on the back of my neck; at other times, I gloried in the Goddess’ abundant gifts and very much identified with the benison such generosity can confer.

My own personal favourites were the lovely leaf rain section and the vision of the Nazarene – but I enjoyed all of it, and thoroughly recommend the book to anyone who has an interest in paranormal events.

Real Ghost Stories Online

Tonight, one of my stories – Medium – from My Haunted Life Too was featured on the Real Ghost Stories online podcast (January 27th edition).

Real Ghost Stories Online is a website that does a show via podcast available on iTunes. According to the site, the show is a combination of interviews, verbally submitted ghost stories and written ghost stories sent to us by listeners all over the world.

It’s very professionally done and really a great listen. The website is filled with great features too. I recommend it.

The Art of Science – due out sometime in February – is my new collection of poetry. (Yes – I still pop out poetry like its going out of fashion in the simple hope that one day it will be back in fashion…).

However, dah dah!

US Blues

Here is a funny and strange thing. While my Haunted Life books sit in the Amazon supernatural charts in the UK and around 5-10 books a day are consumed (thanks so much!), the US has deserted me. Its bizarre because I spent 20 years there and have more friends and contacts there than anywhere else……Hell, my three sons still live there! It’s also a large market and one that I need to crack to make progress.

Take for example, January to date. UK – book sales in three figures (that in of itself is a first!) whereas in the USA just 35 sales…….

I have the US blues…

Any ideas fellow authors, scribblers and dreamers as to how to get the great US public to buy my books?

My Haunted Life Series Experience

In Amazon terms, My Haunted Life and My Haunted Life Too are both best-sellers in their categories. While neither has earned the #1 spot in their category as of yet, they have both been in the top 10. My Haunted Life 3 is due on on Friday 23rd January so perhaps it will be the one to be number one? We will see.

Slide1

I have learned a great deal through these three short kindle books actually. A lot about writing and a lot about Amazon and sales. What amazes me is how few books are needed to be in the top of a category! Having said that, you need to sell 5-6 books day in day out to stay there! Sales numbers (including free give aways) for the two books are still quite low as well. My Haunted Life is close to 300 copies and My Haunted Life Too close to 280. Those are, in truth, not huge numbers.

So has my experiment been a success or not?

On one hand a big YES. I have learned a lot as I said earlier about writing and marketing books with this experience. I think I have also broadened my audience a bit as well and I have generated some royalties – this bit is quite nice as the royalties are more than beer money for the first time in my writing career! What is more is that other books are selling well too. The Last Observer is selling so too is Astral Messages for example. In fact, for the last 2-months I have sold at least one copy of every book except the ill-fated Poems for the Little Room (Perhaps I need to rethink the title?). So, yes, overall, its been a good experiment.

On the other hand, the negatives are that actually, I have yet to sell books in the kinds of volume that, from a business perspective, makes it worthwhile. I have yet to break 500 copies of any book outside of my business titles. Thats hardly ‘best selling’ is it? Plainly, I need to keep my day job!

Despite that, this is really a hobby and a lot of fun. With a number of other projects in progress (The Lord of the Elements, The Art of Science and more Kindle books too), I have been reinvigorated by this and, if I keep at it, slowly but surely, I can see a day when, while not a household name by any means, I could retire on book royalties…..

Prayer and its Power….

I just finished a book by Mark Stavish called The Inner Way – The Power of Prayer and Belief in Spiritual Practice. Prayer is a very powerful tool that we have in our armory of magickal tools and one that is often overlooked. This is my review from Strange Book Reviews – my book review website.

Five-stars from me for a wonderful book.

There are books that you read, enjoy, perhaps assimilate a little of, and then consign to the dusty shelf of books once read but never retouched. There are other books that you read turning page after page, eager to move on, knowing that to properly assimilated, the book will need to be kept close at hand to be read, reread and dipped into when necessary. These latter types of books are few and far between but, The Inner Way – The Power of Prayer and Belief in Spiritual Practice is certainly one of them.

A few years ago, I made a determination that, to all intents and purposes, I was on my own when it came to pursuit of the esoteric and spiritual. To a large degree, I actually tried not to read books on the topic for answers so much as for corroboration and to regenerate my enthusiasm for the search. I simply came to realize that the answers were actually all known to me – the inner me. Other people’s answers may show the way to heaven or to hell, but it was their answer not mine. All I had to do (as if this is in any way an easy task – it is not) was to seek the answers there within myself. This book, it seems to me, concurs with that view, reminding me of how to do this, and providing the tools and techniques all at the same time.

Fundamentally, the book is about prayer. Yes, prayer. How many books on occult techniques and practices ever really get to grips with prayer? Prayer is a fundamental aspect of spiritual practice and one that seems to me to be remarkably undervalued and mostly overlooked these days. This book gets to grips with prayer – what it is, why it is important and provides guidance on how to prayer. For that fact alone, it is, in my opinion, an essential addition to any library of occult classics.

However, the appendices (which form around half of the book) contain a great deal of additional information supplemented with many and varied references that are also invaluable. These appendices are in of themselves a veritable treasure trove of wisdom, reference sources and meditation material. I particularly enjoyed the ideas contained regarding magic in the modern world and in creating reality.

Mr. Stavish and his colleagues have produced a classic text here. Highly recommended.

My Haunted Life Too Giveaway Has Now Ended

So the 5-day give away has now ended and I am delighted to say that 226 people downloaded the book which, for me, is a new record for a give away on Kindle. I would like to thank them for trying my work and to ask if they would kindly consider writing a review?

I am hopeful that many of these people will now purchase My Haunted Life or My Haunted Life 3 as well.

Right now, I am still hard at work on My Haunted Life 3 stories. I already have some really great stories written based on a meeting with my brother’s brother-in-law at a christmas party. He was a font of great paranormal and strange stories, many of which I have included in the book but also, some of them triggered memories of other similar stories as well.

Later, my intention is to bundle all three together as a new paperback of short stories.

Meanwhile, all three books can be purchased on Kindle at any Amazon site.
